"My Top Storylines Heading to NFL Training Camp (Part 1)" by Ronald Carthen

Can the NFL season please get here already, all of this baseball is driving me insane. My Sundays are so boring in the afternoon after I go to church. Before we see Drew Brees and the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints host the Minnesota Vikings on September 9th, let's take a look at my top training camp storylines heading to this NFL season.

Brett Favre we know you are coming back geesh!!!!!

Come on Brett Favre you are not going to retire after throwing an interception to Saints cornerback Tracy Porter before the end of regulation and open the door for Garrett Hartley to kick the game-winning field goal as the Saints won the NFC Championship and advance to the Super Bowl. You came off a great season with 4,202 passing yards, 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. We all know you are going to get your ankle better and join the team after training camp, but you better get ready for a tough 20th season in the league. He will have to face the Saints, Jets, Patriots, Cowboys, Giants, and the Eagles this season. They are looking forward to send plenty of players after a soon-to-be 41-year old man. Please tell Adrian Peterson to hold on to the ball. He leads the league with 20 fumbles in the last three years.

Can the Saints repeat as Super Bowl Champs?

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are the last team to repeat as the Super Bowl Champs (2003 over the Carolina Panthers & 2004 over the Philadelphia Eagles). I don't think the Saints will repeat as the champs this season. Drew Brees, who threw for 4,388 passing yards and 34 TDs with a 70.6% completion percentage, will have another great season but I don't even think he's that good to bring them back to the Super Bowl. The last two teams in the NFC South that made it to the Super Bowl were the 2002 SB champs Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2003 SB runner-up Carolina Panthers. Neither team made it to the playoffs the following season. Let's see if Marques Colston, Pierre Thomas, and Reggie Bush can make Brees' life much easier. Another concern is can Darren Sharper's knee hold up for an entire season. Sharper, who tied for first in the league with nine interceptions, is the most important player on the team's defensive roster and must stay healthy all season. He and the team finished with 26 interceptions last season.

Expectations are so high for the Cowboys!!!!!

Jerry Jones is going to do everything to hype up the players and coaching staff this season. This year's Super Bowl is at Cowboys Stadium and he wants nothing more then to have his team host the event at his own stadium. Tony Romo, who finished with 26 TDs and only nine interceptions, will be ready for the challenge this season. He'll be able to throw it to Miles Austin (81 catches, 1,320 receiving yards and 11 TDs), Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, and Roy Williams. Not to mention he will be able to hand the ball of to Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice. Hopefully Doug Free will be a good replacement for Flozell Adams, who was released this offseason, at the left tackle position. I'm ready to see DeMarcus Ware, who finished with 57 tackles and 11 sacks, will continue his dominance on the defensive side of the ball.

Why would the Patriots make Tom Brady unhappy?

I can't believe the Patriots have yet to give Tom Brady a contract extension. He won three Super Bowls for you guys and he's only 32 years old. I think the Patriots reach their peak when they lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. When Wes Welker injured his knee a week before the Pats played the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Wild Card game, I didn't think they were going to get beat that bad. The Ravens open up a 24-0 lead in the 1st quarter and humiliated the Patriots 33-14. If Brady doesn't have Welker back sometime this season, I don't see them even making the playoffs.

Can the Jets live up to the hype?????

The Jets making it to the AFC Championship game was amazing in itself. I thought for sure they were going to win after they were up 17-6 early in the game against the Colts, but come on you are talking about Peyton Manning. Now Rex Ryan has to figure out how the Jets defense, who rank 1st in total defense, and the Jets running game, who rank first in rushing, will continue to dominate in the league. Darrelle Revis, who finished with six interceptions, is one of the most feared corners in the game. Now with Antonio Cromartie on the other side, it's going to be difficult  for QBs to decide where to throw the ball. Mark Sanchez will have a good second season with the team. With new receiver Santonio Holmes (suspended for four games to start the season for substance abuse) to help out Braylon Edwards and Dustin Keller, Sanchez's options are looking much brighter. Now with Thomas Jones gone, the Jets have to rely on Shonn Greene and new teammate LaDainian Tomilinson to carry the best ground game in the league.

"Chris Johnson go to camp...but the Titans better pay the man!!!!!" by Ronald Carthen

I can't stand it when NFL players threaten to holdout from training camp if they don't get paid. Chris Johnson I know you ran for 2,006 rushing yards last season and want more money but just go to camp. I know it's you are only getting paid $550,000 next season, but let your agent handle your business and let your skills on the field take care of itself.

I know you would love to have a short-term deal but what you are asking for a long-term deal could be too much. I think asking for $30 million guaranteed is too much but I have a feeling that you will get what you ask for.

I also think the Titans need to pay you what you are worth or else they'll lose their best running back since Eddie George. You and Vince Young were the main reasons why the Titans finished the season 8-2 after starting the season 0-6, with Kerry Collins as the starter. Johnson ran for over 100 yards in 12 of the 16 games, including running for 228 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8 to help the Titans win their first game of the season.

The Titans didn't make the playoffs and I don't think they'll make it again next season, but I think Johnson should get paid. He's only 24 years old and should be a great running back for the next five seasons. If you have a good running back and quarterback, you have to find a way to keep both of them. I don't what the Titans are waiting for but they need to pay the man and pay him soon.

Johnson says his goal is to rush for 2,500 rushing yards this season, and you don't want to keep a pro bowler that sets goals for himself to help the team. I don't expect him to rush for 2,000 yards this season, but you can't be serious on waiting to reward an athlete for his hard work. Johnson just go to camp but if they don't want you, they'll be plenty of teams that would love to have you.

"The Evil Empire has begun...LOL!!!!" by Ronald Carthen

LeBron James has begun the most evil era in the history of the NBA. LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh all on the same court with the same uniform is going to be insane. I can't think of a better way for LeBron to announce he was going to the Heat the way he did it. I feel bad for the city of Cleveland but this was the best way to announce he's going to make history.

I enjoyed watching how LeBron showed no remorse on moving on and playing with the Heat, not to mention he only contact the Heat before the decision was made. He didn't even give Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert a call before the announcement, now that was funny to me. If you were in LeBron's shoes would you stay in Cleveland with a roster that doesn't have a chance to help him win a title or go start a dream team that can win championships in the future. He is the most hated athlete in all of sports, but he has to do what's best for his family and his LeBron brand.

LeBron will play for a better team but I never want to see anyone compare him to Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan ever again. LeBron's legacy was over once he decided he was heading with D Wade and Bosh. You all know this will be D Wade's team and LeBron will just be another ball player that will help draw plenty of tickets. It was obvious that LeBron didn't care about any of that and just wants to win championships. I respect that, but you can't say you are your own man anymore.

I thought Dan Gilbert had plenty of guts going off on LeBron when he made his decision. He even told the Associated Press that LeBron quit on the Cavs in Game 2, 4, 5, and 6 of the series against the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In his letter to the fans, he said the Cavs will win a champioship before the self-titled former "King" ever will. He even went on and said the curse of Cleveland sports will follow him to Miami. Gilbert I can't wait until LeBron comes to Cleveland and destroy your Cavs. They should make that an opening night game in the NBA.

We will all be a witness next year as few fans will show some love to the Heat, while many are ready to spread the hate. I can't wait to see how people will jump on the Heat bandwagon and jump right off if things go wrong.

LeBron better get ready to be the most hated man on the planet. It's going to be a great 2010-11 NBA season and I can't wait to witness history once the Miami Big Three steps onto the courty. Get ready everybody because it's going to be a show.

"LeBron Circus Will Finally Be Over" by Ronald Carthen!!!!!

Tonight we will finally find out where LeBron James will be playing for the next several years. All signs indicate he'll join the Miami Heat with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, but I'm going to wait and see what will happen at 9 pm on ESPN, during his 1-hour special.

If he choses to head to South Beach, he will never be compared to Kobe Bryant again. Kobe won five championships with different players, while LeBron proves he can't win a title without an all-star and he can't lead a team to a championship ring. Let's be honest, he'll never get an opportunity like this again. Can you blame him for wanting a championship so bad that he's willing to sacrafice $30 million less to join a soon to be dynasty.

No matter where LeBron goes tonight, his decision has made us look as obsessed as teenage girls chosen Team Edward or Team Jacob in the Twilight series. We are all desperate to know where he will go so some of us may decide to jump on his bandwagon and claim you are a fan of his your whole life, while everybody else will continue to show how much you can't stand him.

If you can't stand LeBron James, tonight you have every right to spread your dislikes even more. If he decides to play in Miami, the NBA's Evil Empire will officially be born. I can't wait to see the look on the faces of the people of Cleveland and New York City if he doesn't play for them. At least I can say everyone in Akron can get there tissue ready and I hope security will be to the max. There's no way he goes back to the Cavs with a roster that can't help him win a title.

LeBron is very bold to hold his announcement at Greenwich, Connecticut, near the Knicks facility, if he announces that he goes to the Heat while Knicks fans are around. I understand it's at the Boys & Girls Club but man he could have chosen another location.

For all of you thinking he has a big ego for asking for his own 1-hour show, but ESPN has been going after every rumor they can find. Sports Reporters have the worst ego on earth and want just as much attention as anybody. So if you are mad he asked for one more hour of him too bad.

LeBron please get this over with tonight and I'm okay with any decision you make. If you go to Miami you are no longer a leader, you are D Wade's follower.

"Amar'e is a start but not enough!!!!!" by Ronald Carthen

Amar'e Stoudimire to Knicks might have been the best news that Knicks fans have heard in years. The fans know this won't be enough to get back to being one of the best teams in the league but it's a start.  Let's be honest you wouldn't turn down a 5-year/$100 million deal no matter how good or bad the team is.

Stoudimire says he will do everything to recruit LeBron James to come to New York. He also said that Carmelo Anthony and Tony Parker, who'll both be free agents next season, would love to play for them at Madison Square Garden as well. Don't forget Dwyane Wade would be another possibility as well, but I personally don't see that happening. I didn't think LeBron was heading to Knicks but now you have to consider them back in the free agent picture. I don't expect Carmelo to be traded this year, but he will sign with the Knicks if heopts out of his deal with the Nuggets after next season. I don't think Tony Parker will be with him either this season with the lack of talent on the Knicks roster already.

If LeBron doesn't sign with the Knicks, it's a possibility it will be miserable 2010-11 season for Stoudimire. You already know that the Suns was Steve Nash's team and I don't see him as a franchise player. What I mean by franchise player is someone who is a vocal leader and can carry his team to championships for many years. I don't see him as a guy that will speak up and tell his teammates what to do to get better like Kobe Bryant. I hope someone will join him this season or next season or else this deal was an absolute joke.

The Knicks haven't been back in the playoffs since 2003-04 season, when they were swept by the New Jersey Nets, and haven't won a playoff series since the 1999-00 season. I'm not a Knicks fan, but it's time for the Garden to be a great place to watch a basketball game again. These fans have put up with enough garbage and they deserve more.

I'm happy for Stoudimire, but the Knicks have more work to do. At least you have a decent chance of being a playoff team next year.

"First Black AD in the SEC let go after DUI and Cheating on his wife" by Ronald Carthen

Damon Evans you let me, your family, friends, University of Georgia, alumni, students, and most importantly any black man who wants to become an athletic director down. Come on man did Tiger Woods not teach all men anything? I guess not in this case.

I was not happy to hear that University of Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans, the first black athletic director in the SEC, was let go after getting arrested for a DUI charge. Evans was hired in 2004. when he was 34 years old, and was about to get a new deal worth $550,000 a year, but now all of that money is down the drain. My main concern isn't the DUI, it's a woman that you were creeping around with when you were caught.

Evans you have a wife and two children and you decide to risk everything for a night or two of passionate sex with Courtney Fuhrmann. You claim she was just a friend you meet with each week, but no friend just takes off her panties and put them on your lap while driving so you can hold them for her while driving her home. You knew you were ready to take her to the house with plenty of nasty bad intentions.

To all men who are happily married, please do not sleep with another woman because you will get caught sooner or later. Just because another woman wants to have sex with you does not give you the right to grant her wishes while you have a wedding ring on your finger. You are looking to destroy your career, your family, your home, and your finances. Let me say that again "YOUR FINANCES!!!!!"

To all women who want to sleep with married men, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Just because you know he's financial secure, don't give you the right to sleep with him. You are just as wrong as he is and you will suffer some consequences as well. You are also the cause of destroying a happy home and believe me children, especially when they are adults, do not like anybody trying to ruin their parents marriage.

I'm not a love doctor but I know when you break a good woman's heart they will prevail at the end no matter what. Evans you screwed up big time and I hope your wife will forgive you and maybe you can have a chance to save this marriage or you could be broke after a divorce. Good luck looking for a AD job, it's going to be tough for you to get one for a while.

"NBA Free Agency underway!!!!!" by Ronald Carthen

The biggest move so far in free agency isn't an NBA player signed, it was Phil Jackson deciding to coach the Lakers for one more season. Phil will have a chance to go for his 12th NBA title and his fourth three-peat. If he can do it on two occasions with Michael Jordan and the Bulls, he can do it with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. There will be more pressure for Kobe on a personal level to send out his head coach the right way. With this free agency it could possibly be his toughest challenge yet. Here are the rest of the big stories as we await on LeBron James and others to see where they'll go next season.

Paul Pierce stays with the Celtics!!!!

Who didn't see this coming? We knew as soon as Doc Rivers was coming back to the Celtics to finish out the final year of his contract, we knew Paul Pierce was coming back to Beantown. Pierce opt out of $21.5 million next season, to get a bigger deal before the collective bargaining agreement expires. He could be making $61 million for the next four seasons. He'll also want to send Rivers out on a good note if he doesn't come back next season. The 2008 NBA Finals MVP is looking to get another ring with the Celtics, even if they get revenge on Kobe and the Lakers.

Dirk Nowitzki gets an offer from the Mavs!!!!!

The most the Mavericks can give Dirk is a four-year deal worth $96 million. I think he'll stay but I think the Mavs had their chance to win the title back in 2006 but blew it when they lost to the Miami Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals. I know he wants to be loyal to Mavs owner Mark Cuban, but I know he wants a championship ring at some point. The 2006-07 MVP will have to firgure out how this get back to the promise land after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in three of the last four years.

Rudy Gay gets overpaid in Memphis!!!!!

Rudy Gay never led the Grizzlies to the playoffs and never made an all-star team, yet he still gets paid $82 million for the next five years. I can't believe Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley was this desperate to keep Rudy for so much money. I would never pay a player that much money unless he's been in the playoffs or won a championship. The Grizzlies finished 40-42 this season after finishing 24-58 a year ago. They may make the playoffs soon but don't expect them to win a title anytime soon.

Joe Johnson could stay in Atlanta!!!!!

Joe Johnson was offered a six-year deal worth $119 million to stay with the Hawks and he could possibly stay in the ATL. I don't blame him if he were to take the deal but the Hawks are making a terrible mistake. I don't see the Hawks winning a championship with Al Horford, Josh Smith, Mike Bibby, Marvin Williams, and Johnson in the starting five. They were swept out of the semifinals in the last two seasons. I don't see them getting over the hump and beat any team LeBron plays for to win a title. Hawks fans I hope your team knows what they are doing.

Bucks spending money in free agency!!!!!

I'm happy that John Salmons is getting a five-year deal worth $39 million with the Bucks. After being traded by the Bulls, he played a big role with Brandon Jennings in the backcourt to clinch a playoff spot. They were one win away from beating the Atlanta Hawks and meeting the Orlando Magic in the semifinals, but after losing in Game 6 they couldn't find a way to beat the Hawks in Atlanta and were eliminated. Salmons led the team averaging almost 20 points last season. My biggest question mark is Drew Gooden getting $32 million for the next five years. The will be Gooden's ninth team he is playing for in the last nine years.

Darko gets $20 million?????!!!!!

Darko Milicic gets $20 million for the next four years with the Minnesota Timberwolves is insanse. His time was up a long time ago and now he gets this much money. The T'Wolves could have used the money to get somebody else perhaps.

Brendan Haywood wants $10 million a year?????!!!!!

Brendan Haywood wants $10 million a year yet he has acomplish nothing in my opinion. The Heat and Cavaliers will meet with him and I hope they don't give him what he wants.

"Byron Scott new coach of the Cavs but is it the right decision????!!!!!" by Ronald Carthen

I'm very happy that Byron Scott will be the head coach the Cleveland Cavaliers, but taking the job without knowing if LeBron James is coming back is a very big risk. With this free agency I'm not sure if LeBron will come back to play for Cleveland or play for another team to build his brand.

I think Lakers assistant Brian Shaw and Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo made the right decision to turn down the job. They know if LeBron didn't return to the team this season they would be screwed. I hope Scott made the best decision for him and his family or else this would be a disaster. Nobody will be willing to play at Cleveland without LeBron. Come on would you go to there or play somewhere like New York or Miami other then play for a sports town that has Indians and Browns.

Maybe this situation could be a good thing for LeBron. He will play for a man that coached Jason Kidd and the Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. He won coach of the year in 2008 for leading Chris Paul and the Hornets to a 56-win season. He played for 14 seasons and won three championships in 11 seasons with the Lakers. This could intrigue LeBron to staying with a man that knows what it takes to win championships as a player.

If LeBron stays in Cleveland with Scott, I know they'll find a way to get Chris Paul to come to the Cavs. Paul played for Scott from 2004-2010 and it would be a great idea to see a King James-CP3 duo. The problem is Paul has two more years until he becomes a free agent and I know the Hornets are not going to trade CP3 unless he demands it.

Scott needs LeBron back badly in order to make this work. I think his experience with the Nets and Hornets will make him a better coach. But if LeBron goes elsewhere, this deal will blow up right in his face and it'll be the end of Cleveland sports as we know it. I really hope he knows what he's doing.
