"NBA Free Agency underway!!!!!" by Ronald Carthen

The biggest move so far in free agency isn't an NBA player signed, it was Phil Jackson deciding to coach the Lakers for one more season. Phil will have a chance to go for his 12th NBA title and his fourth three-peat. If he can do it on two occasions with Michael Jordan and the Bulls, he can do it with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. There will be more pressure for Kobe on a personal level to send out his head coach the right way. With this free agency it could possibly be his toughest challenge yet. Here are the rest of the big stories as we await on LeBron James and others to see where they'll go next season.

Paul Pierce stays with the Celtics!!!!

Who didn't see this coming? We knew as soon as Doc Rivers was coming back to the Celtics to finish out the final year of his contract, we knew Paul Pierce was coming back to Beantown. Pierce opt out of $21.5 million next season, to get a bigger deal before the collective bargaining agreement expires. He could be making $61 million for the next four seasons. He'll also want to send Rivers out on a good note if he doesn't come back next season. The 2008 NBA Finals MVP is looking to get another ring with the Celtics, even if they get revenge on Kobe and the Lakers.

Dirk Nowitzki gets an offer from the Mavs!!!!!

The most the Mavericks can give Dirk is a four-year deal worth $96 million. I think he'll stay but I think the Mavs had their chance to win the title back in 2006 but blew it when they lost to the Miami Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals. I know he wants to be loyal to Mavs owner Mark Cuban, but I know he wants a championship ring at some point. The 2006-07 MVP will have to firgure out how this get back to the promise land after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in three of the last four years.

Rudy Gay gets overpaid in Memphis!!!!!

Rudy Gay never led the Grizzlies to the playoffs and never made an all-star team, yet he still gets paid $82 million for the next five years. I can't believe Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley was this desperate to keep Rudy for so much money. I would never pay a player that much money unless he's been in the playoffs or won a championship. The Grizzlies finished 40-42 this season after finishing 24-58 a year ago. They may make the playoffs soon but don't expect them to win a title anytime soon.

Joe Johnson could stay in Atlanta!!!!!

Joe Johnson was offered a six-year deal worth $119 million to stay with the Hawks and he could possibly stay in the ATL. I don't blame him if he were to take the deal but the Hawks are making a terrible mistake. I don't see the Hawks winning a championship with Al Horford, Josh Smith, Mike Bibby, Marvin Williams, and Johnson in the starting five. They were swept out of the semifinals in the last two seasons. I don't see them getting over the hump and beat any team LeBron plays for to win a title. Hawks fans I hope your team knows what they are doing.

Bucks spending money in free agency!!!!!

I'm happy that John Salmons is getting a five-year deal worth $39 million with the Bucks. After being traded by the Bulls, he played a big role with Brandon Jennings in the backcourt to clinch a playoff spot. They were one win away from beating the Atlanta Hawks and meeting the Orlando Magic in the semifinals, but after losing in Game 6 they couldn't find a way to beat the Hawks in Atlanta and were eliminated. Salmons led the team averaging almost 20 points last season. My biggest question mark is Drew Gooden getting $32 million for the next five years. The will be Gooden's ninth team he is playing for in the last nine years.

Darko gets $20 million?????!!!!!

Darko Milicic gets $20 million for the next four years with the Minnesota Timberwolves is insanse. His time was up a long time ago and now he gets this much money. The T'Wolves could have used the money to get somebody else perhaps.

Brendan Haywood wants $10 million a year?????!!!!!

Brendan Haywood wants $10 million a year yet he has acomplish nothing in my opinion. The Heat and Cavaliers will meet with him and I hope they don't give him what he wants.
