Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins...Is it a good fit????!!!!!! by Ronald Carthen

The Denver Broncos traded wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins for draft picks in 2010 and 2011. Marshall also agreed to a four-year, $47.5 million contract extension ($24 million guarantee). The Dolphins have been waiting for this day for a few years, but is he a great fit?

The 2006 fourth-round draft pick, out of Central Florida, caught 101 passes for 1,120 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns last season. The Dolphins haven't had a receiver to catch 10 TDs since 2005. Some fans expect Dolphins quarterback to throw the ball down the field to the Marshall at least 20 times a game, but this team belongs to running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

The Dolphins love to run the ball most of the time, especially in the wildcat formation. The team finished fourth in the league with 139.4 rushing yards a game last season. When Ronnie went out with a right foot injury, Ricky had a great comeback season and lead the team with 1,121 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. The Dolphins leading receiver was Davone Bess with 76 catches for 758 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Brain Hartline led the team with three touchdown catches.

It sounds like the troubled wide receiver will have to make some sacrifices with his numbers. I don't expect Marshall to get 10 TD catches next year. If the team is winning you won't hear a peep out of him. If they are losing, you can expect the classic wide receiver diva to come out of him.

I hope the Dolphins are ready for another troubled star. Last season, he was suspended by the Broncos for throwing a tantrum in practice due to misinformation about his hip injury and his contract situation. He was suspended for the 2008 opener for domestic disputes with his former girlfriend. He also had run-ins with the law and met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells has dealt with many troubled receivers, including Terrell Owens, Keyshawn Johnson, and Terry Glenn. I hope head coach Tony Sparano and Marshall will be on the same page.

I don't expect the Dolphins to win the Super Bowl or win the AFC East, but this was a good deal, but the Dolphins should not be surprised if Marshall is angry for not getting enough catches and touchdowns.
