SANTONIO HOLMES to the JETS!!!!! written by Ronald Carthen

That video of Santonio Holmes game-winning touchdown catch brought back some memories. As I was sitting with some of my former ESPN co-workers, who I still consider my friends, at Barca's in Hartford, CT, Santonio made Ben Roethlisberger's throw look a lot better as he reached for the ball and sealed a Pittxburgh Steelers Super Bowl XVIII victory over the Arizona Cardinals and won the SB MVP. Now what do you do to show your appreciation, you send him to the New York Jets for a fifth round draft pick in this year's NFL Draft. He'll also be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the substance abuse policy.

Normally I would be mad at this situation, but you can't in this case. The Steelers are a first-class organization and they don't want their franchise to look like a jailhouse like the Cincinnati Bengals a few years ago.

With Ben Roethlisberger accused of sexual assault twice and Santonio Holmes accused of throwing a glass at a woman, they had to make an example to everyone in the Steeler locker room. So they choose a troubled receiver over a starting quarterback.

Holmes is fortunate that a witness is taking the blame for throwing glass above a woman's eye at an Orlando nightclub or else he could have had a much longer suspension. In 2008, he was suspended for a possession of marijuana and in 2006, he was charged with misdemeanor charges from a domestic violence incident. The Steelers had to say enough was enough at this point.

The new Jets wide receiver is a list of troubled players on the Jets like Braylon Edwards (accused of punching a friend of LeBron James as a Cleveland Brown) and Antonio Cromartie (fathered seven kids with six women). I'm sure Jets head coach Rex Ryan will enjoy coaching these guys this year.

Holmes came off a one of the best seasons of his career with 79 catches, 1,248 receiving yards, and five touchdowns.

I think this is a huge upgrade for the Jets wide receiving group. With Holmes and Braylon Edwards, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez should not have a sophomore slump. This will be a good 2010 season for the Jets, we'll see if they'll make the Super Bowl.
