I'm very happy that Ben Roethlisberger had such a productive meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Now it's time to see how commissioner Goodell is going to handle this situation.
I think commissioner Goodell should suspend Big Ben for at least five games for being accused of sexual assault twice. He put himself out there for attending a party with young college kids in Georgia, drinking way too much, and following a 20-year old college girl to the bathroom. Come on commissioner this is your time to make a statement and put the league's conduct policy to good use, I don't care if the charges were dropped.
You didn't have a problem suspending Adam "Pacman" Jones for the entire 2007 season when he had 10 incidents with the police and his involvement with the Las Vegas shooting during all-star weekend that same year, or suspending Michael Vick for six weeks before letting him play in Week 3 for making progress after sitting in jail a couple of years for the dog-fighting ring, just to name a few.
If you suspend Big Ben for only a couple of weeks or don't suspend him at all, you know they'll be talks all over the world on "What if this is a black athlete?" discussion in TV shows, homes, and barber shops. I think every minority is going to watch closely on what will happen to a white franchise quarterback. I hate that race still plays a role in our society but unfortunately we have to deal with it and ignore ignorant racial statements.
I can't wait to see what commissioner Goodell will do in this situation. One thing is for sure the Steelers will not put up with his garbage any longer. I hope the league do what is right and suspend him for a good period of time. If he does nothing at all and let the team decide what to do it'll be a black eye to the league, women, and the city of Pittsburgh.
Big Ben better get it together or else his career could be over soon. The Steelers and NFL fans deserve better.
