Can John Calipari be a good Head Coach for LeBron James????? by Ronald Carthen

I should be talking about how well Ray Allen played as he led the Boston Celtics to victory over the Orlando Magic in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, but every LeBron James rumor is going to overshadow the NBA Playoffs. Now we have to listen to rumors that basketball power broker William Wesley, a friend of LeBron and Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari, is working on a package deal to send both of these guys to the Chicago Bulls.

Calipari has continue to say that he's staying with the Kentucky Wildcats and enjoys his job with the Big Blue Nation, but I'm not going to buy that until everything is official.

Calipari has to decide if he wants to coach LeBron James on a long-term basis or continue to coach one-and-done college basketball players that are heading to the NBA draft after their freshman year.

If coach Calipari were to come back to the NBA, can he lead LeBron and his team to an NBA title? It's too soon to tell but Calipari's last NBA experiment didn't work out very well. In the 1996-97 season, he began his NBA coaching career with the New Jersey Nets. In his first season with the team, he led them to a 26-56 record. In the following season, he led to team to the NBA playoffs, but lost in the first round to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Then in the beginning of his third season, Calipari was fired after a 3-17 start. This proves once again that most college coaches need to stay in college.

I don't know if Calipari will ever learn from his mistakes if he decides to coach the NBA again, but LeBron will be able to make things much easier.

Just imagine if Calipari was going to coach LeBron in Chicago next season. It'll give him a chance to reunite with Derrick Rose, who he coached at Memphis, and team up with Luol Deng and Joakim Noah. Or what if they go to New Jersey and possibly team up with John Wall, who he coached at Kentucky last season, that would be insane. Or what about both of them head to the Clippers and take over Kobe Bryant's town, okay that's just wishful thinking.

Keep this in mind about coach Calipari, he has not won a college basketball championship. In 1996, he led Marcus Camby and UMASS to the Final Four but lost to Rick Pitino and the Kentucky Wildcats in the national semifinal. Last season, he led Derrick Rose and the Memphis Tigers to the National Championship, but they end up losing to the Kansas Jayhawks. This past season, he failed to take John Wall and the Kentucky Wildcats to the Final Four, after losing to the West Virginia Mountaineers.

There are something that both LeBron and Calipari have in common, they haven't met their expectations. Though both careers are far from over, they need to win a championship at some point. I'm rooting for both of them to win a title to get that monkey off of their backs. Maybe they need each other to accomplish that goal.
